Robert Bradbrook - Tutor

I started my professional career as a cartographer, but always had a passion for moving images. In 1991 I returned to college to develop this interest, taking an MA in Electronic Arts and Graphics at Coventry University. Here I created my first computer animation The Sleeper.

In 1993 I was awarded an Arts Council of England Animate! grant to make End of Restriction, a 5-minute film created on a home-based Apple Mac. The story explored the claustrophobic world of a teenage boy living in an English village.

I completed Home Road Movies in 2001. This 12 minute film tells the true story of my father and our family car. Supported by Channel 4 and the Arts Council of England National Lottery, the film went on to be nominated for a BAFTA, and won some of the most prestigious awards in animation.

Between my own films, I have worked with other directors, most notably with Yousaf Ali Khan on his live action short Talking With Angels. I produced the opening animation sequence and collaborated with him on the look of the film.

In 2004 I was awarded an Arts Foundation grant to develop the animation Dead Air, a film that looks at the imaginary worlds that we all live in.

For over 10 years I have worked in the field of computer animation focusing both on my own projects as well as providing creative solutions in film, video and new media for a variety of clients.

I am also a regular visiting lecturer at the NFTS and Coventry University and have given talks and tutorials at colleges, galleries and film festivals around the world.
