Graduate
2001
After being born, dawdling to and from school, realising she
wasnt going to be a ballerina so doing an art foundation
course instead, Leigh Hodgkinson
went to University in Hull where she began to dabble in animation
and in
1998 gained a first in Graphic Design. After graduating she
worked in the Museum
of the Moving Image (South Bank, London) where
she whiled away afternoons teaching children the wonders of
the zoetrope.
In 1999 she started a post-graduate course at the National Film
and Television School in Animation Direction where she made
two short animated films. (Excess Baggage and Novelty).
Since leaving in February 2001 Leigh has made another film Matryoshka
for Sonimation (a sound & animation collaborated
commission funded
by Sonic
Arts and the
Arts Council)
which toured the country in 2001.
Leigh is currently working in London as a freelance animator/designer
on various tv pilots and series (including
some freelance for Pesky
Animation) and
in her spare time tries to refine her oversized web site (see
below)and illustrate stories.
She
is one of the 2001 MOMI/Channel 4 animators in residence and
is due to commence her new film (a cross between a nursery
rhyme and 1950s B-movie with lots of Hammond Organ sounds)
in May 2002.
