Joana
Bartolomeu
Born in Portugal. Degree in graphic design at IADE Lisbon.
Worked for a childrens channel on the web where I developed
small animated stories and web games. Studied traditional
animation at Citen/Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation where I
reinforced my passion for puppet animation.
At Citen, and after doing a special effects workshop with
Colin H.Arthur (Dreamfactory), I felt I needed to go abroad,
develop my animation skills, explore more techniques and open
my horizons. My last film "Aluga-se", a student collaboration,
was shown at Cinanima 2002 (Portugal).
With the support of a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship,
I came to the NFTS. My time here has been very exciting, intense
and productive, allowing me to experiment with puppet, sand
and flash animation.
My first film, Returning Waves, was screened at the Berlinale
Talent Campus 2004. I assisted on two graduation films before
embarking on my own, and have recently provided animation
for two Kodak commercials.
My dissertation research allowed me to develop eye movement
and its significance in character animation and filmmaking
in general. I want to continue developing stories and new
ideas, as well as seeking production funding for them.
