Graduate 2001 Leverhulme
Trust Scholar
Born in London in 1965, I left school at sixteen, directionless
until
discovering the films of Robert Breer and Stan Brakhage in
the early
'Nineties. I started working on my own film that same day.
I took evening classes: Art, English Lit and Lang, did a Foundation
in Documentary at Brixton College, 1992-93. Central
St Martin's, BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Film), 1993-96. After
graduating, I did some 3-D model animation for pop videos
and CD-Roms. After getting a call from a former tutor about
the NFTS, I applied and was accepted.
The course has been invaluable in giving me the ability to
research and develop ideas and an understanding of drama and
mise-en-scène. I
have also become literate in digital image technology. Coming
from a fine art background, the NFTS has given me and my work
the professional dimension and direction I hoped it would.
James has recently been working for
Sherbert and has completed work on the new projected adverts
for Coca Cola in Picadilly Circus.
