Avgousta Zourelidi
Let me introduce myself…
My name is Avgousta Zourelidi and I
was born in Saint Petersburg in Russia,
I don't think I need to mention
“The most Beautiful City in the World!”.
When I was 2 years old, my mother took me to an art school for children. When the teachers saw me they said that I was too young for their classes, my mother insisted that they should let me draw something for them and then decide. I was given a big piece of pink paper and some watercolours.
After several minutes of hard work my masterpiece was finished. It was a red bunny-rabbit. My picture was shown to the whole school and I was accepted as a student. That was the beginning of my creative career.
When I was 9 we moved to Athens, Greece where the powers of creativity continued to have a great impact upon my life. In High school I joined the “Kaino” art school that prepared students for the Athens Fine Art Academy. Once again I found myself in an environment where I was considered to young but after looking at my sketchbooks they decided to take me on board. I spent two years there, mainly drawing and sketching ancient Greek sculptures. I was accepted into the academy but by that time I had decided that drawing was not enough for me so I chose instead to travel to England to study BA animation at the University of Wolverhampton.
Animation was something completely new to me and I spent the next three years mainly experimenting with techniques and media. I graduated with a First class degree.
Since graduating I've worked on various animation projects, including working with my former tutor Samantha Moore on her film ‘The Beloved Ones'. I also worked as a Digital Artist at Telemagination Studios in Soho where I continue to work part time.
And now I am here at the NFTS eager to learn more about animation and make good films.
Thank you for reading.
To be continued…
